Abstract

A grinding process which has previously been applied only to grinding materials which are difficult or impossible to grind at ambient temp. is now applied to grinding coffee beans in order to obtain a higher yield and improve the quality, particularly the flavour and aroma, or the finished product. Material to be ground is carried through the grinder by a current of cold gas in closed circuit at a temperature 250 K, the material being precooled before entering the mill, by a second current of gas in counter-flow with the beans.
