Abstract

A braiding spindle has an attachment which keeps a constant tension on the bobbin of yarn, situated in the base of the spindle and consisting of a plate with roller inserts, situated between two fixed surfaces. One insert rotates with the bobbin and the other is a plate with ratchet-like indentations, on which the rollers fit. As the tension increases, the rollers press against the rotating bobbin surface and the ratchets. A further attachment moves the ratchet plate to release the roller, and thus the bobbin is able to turn constantly but under tension.
