Abstract
In a steam separator for removing moisture from wet steam, incoming steam passes through spaces between thin metal sheets which are assembled in a stack in parallel relationship and are inclined slightly to the horizontal to drain water from the lower end into a channel which feeds into a collector. Pref. the separator comprises two stacks in series, the partly-dried steam leaving the first stack to pass through a distributing grill into the second stack. Entrained moisture is separated and removed from steam before it is supplied to a prime mover such as a steam turbine, thus preventing damage which might might result from water hammer as well as the erosion effect of wet steam. The separator has a higher capacity to bulk ratio than vertical plate separators, as well as reduced tendency to flood. The design provides a module from which separator assemblies of any capacity can be made up.
