Abstract

The sheets are prepd. by (1) mixing a liq. phenol-aldehyde resole resin, contg. 12-15 wt % water, with an acid catalyst, a hydrocarbon foaming agent, and 7.5-20 wt % boric anhydride (w.r.t. wt of resin), (2) depositing the mixt on a carrier, (3) allowing the mixt to foam while the carrier is introduced between mould confining members in which the foaming is restricted and whose temp. is such that the foamed resin by contact with the mould members is held at 100 degrees C. The insulation sheets obtd. have relatively high compressive strength, sufficient density to carry bituminous roof material, fire-resistance and good mechanical props. and can be used as building construction materials.
