Abstract

The device consists of a short hollow cylinder of silicon rubber with end walls having a central hole of which the diameter equals that of the pipe. A radial slit extends from the central hole to the outer edge and is bounded on either side by longitudinal lips formed in the cylinder side wall. A hollow handle containing a thumb controlled supply valve is attached to the cylinder on the side opposite to the slot. The refrigerant supply pipe is connected to the hollow handle. Pushing the device against the tube forces the lips open and further movement brings the pipe into the central hole, allowing the lips to close and form a chamber around the pipe. Pipe sections may be frozen to facilitate repair work to be carried out.
