Abstract

The dipole network is constructed so that the diple diameter is approximately one fifteenth of a free space wavelength, this wavelength being that of the centre frequency of the pass-band. It has two pairs of such dipoles arranged as a square supplied in phase 0.21 lambda away from a plain reflector spaced 0.48 lambda from a line passing through the centre of the network. The dipoles are identical and 0.4 lambda long and can be phase fed according to the polarisation of the received signals. The dipoles may be fed in quadrature for the reception of circular polarisation. The reflector is a high conductivity metal plate having dimensions of the order of 1.25 lambda and the network may be screened by a ferrite enclosure.
