Abstract

Regulated vertical positioning of e.g., marking gauge, has a carriage raised by the rotation of a wheel(15) and the convertion of this motion into vertical displacement, and also embodies a rotating signal transmitting disc, a detector and means of converting the signal into a numerical display. Pref. the column has a pinioned threaded shaft driven via crown wheel(22) from the drive wheel(17) and carrying a mobile scribe(4). A peripherally slotted detection disc box(32) is coupled to and located beneath the column pinion(20): the passage of slots in conjunction with a photoelectric-emitter-receiver generates pulses which are computed and displayed thus indicating the vertically measured station of the scribe.
