Abstract
1423373 Photo-electric measurement HUNTER ENG CO 17 Jan 1973 2372/73 Heading G1A The angular disposition of a body relative to a reference line is measured by sweeping a light beam across the line from a source on the body and detecting when the beam is along the line to gate a signal generated in accordance with the beam angle to a display, the gating only being operative for one sweep direction. To measure the toe of vehicle wheels, frames 25, 25A adjustably mounted on respective wheels are aligned to define the reference axis R. Each frame contains a photo-cell 61, light source 50 and a lens assembly oscillated in a horizontal plane by an electric motor 35 and eccentric cam 39. A chopper disc 44 produces light pulses at 1KHz to reduce extraneous light interference and a potentiometer 42 driven through 1:1 gears produces a ramp output proportional to beam angle. The photo-cell outputs are amplified (62), Fig. 10 (not shown), sharpened by a monostable and differentiator and fed to a comparator which only passes pulses occuring in one sweep direction to a gate allowing the ramp voltage at that instant to be displayed and held in a memory until the next reading.
