Abstract

The flexible coupling consists of two halves each pressed on to the respective shafts of the driver and driven equipment. One of the halves is flanged. The other half is surrounded by two rings (4) and (5) which are bolted together and also to the flanged half with countersunk through bolts. The outer rings each consist of 3 segments fixed together into one ring by the use of tangential bolts. The drive is taken by six spheres (7) made of elastic elements which bridge the gap between the inner hub and the outer rings. The spheres may be coned with a rigid material which ensures that the drive is maintained in the event of complete accidental destruction of the spheres, as could be achieved by overheating.
