Abstract

Foot irons, for climbing poles, allow the wearer to adjust their effective gripping diameter to compensate for varying diameters over the length of the pole. Each base (1) carries a fixed curved arm (3) to grip around the pole and also a front stop (2). A screwed shaft (13) is threaded in the base and is fixed to the stop. Turning the handle (15) moves the stop in or out, or required. This can be done whilst the irons are in use. Rubber buffers (10) and sleeves (12) avoid damage to the pole. The user's feet are held by straps on the bases through which the screws pass.
