Abstract

The optical system of high sensitivity and wide pass band permits measurements at a distance of the displacement or vibration of a target having a line separating a clear area and a shaded area. A target (10) with a line (2) of demarcation between a clear area (4) and a shaded area (3) is viewed by the optical detector comprising a converging lens (6) placed in front of a diaphragm (7) in front of a truncated prism (8). Light rays from the target are reflected by the lateral faces (12 and 13) into photo sensitive cells (9 and 11). A third cell (14) receives light axially through the truncation of the prism. Electronic amplifier, gain control and demodulator circuits process the photocell outputs to produce a displacement signal independent of lighting variations.
