Polyethers useful as textile auxiliaries, surfactants, hydraulic liquids and polyurethane components are prepd. by (a) polymerising opt. substd. 2-4C alkylene oxides in the presence of basic ctalysts, (b) neutralising with uncrosslinked carboxyl-contg. homopolymers of (meth) acrylic acid, or copolyments of (meth) acrylic acid, maleic acid/anhydride, and opt. a not her ethylenic monomer, having a K value of 40-300, and (c) separating the formed salt. Give colourless, odourless, easily filtered polyethers with a low ash content.
