Abstract

Cell depolarisable by oxygen of the air comprises a solid cathode packed around a carbon rod, and surrounded by a separator around which is a gelled anode mass which is packed inside a can serving as current collector. The upper face of the cathode mass is kept in contact with the air while the top of the can is sealed to prevent loss of electrolyte, with a lid beneath which maybe a mass of a sealing material which is permeable to gas but not to liquid.
