Abstract
1,178,859. Air-depolarized cell. BERLINER AKKUMULATOREN - UND ELEMENTEFABRIK VEB. 30 Aug., 1967, No. 39749/67. Heading H1B. An air-depolarized cell comprises an electrode 1 of pressed zinc powder and an oxygen permeable carbon electrode 3 separated by absorbent matrix 2 impregnated with an alkaline electrolyte. The carbon electrode is covered by absorbent layer 7, which may be of paper, and metal cap 5 which has holes in it. These holes are sealed by foil 6 which may be of polyethvlene, and which is removed before use. The edges of the cell are closed by sealing ring 4 and metal cups 8 and 9. Channels between the ring and the cups allow gas developed in the cell to pass into the annular cavity between the two caps where it is stripped of electrolyte by cellulosic absorbent material 10 and then escapes between the outer cup and the sealing ring.
