Abstract
1,089,895. Sealed accumulators. GULTON INDUSTRIES Inc. Jan. 27, 1965 [Feb. 10, 1964], No. 3658/65. Heading H1B. A sealed re-chargeable dry cell has an auxiliary electrode of a non-electrochemically active material that absorbs oxygen and is separated from the electrodes by a layer of electrolyte impregnated material so that only a short path exists between them. The electrode is negative but insufficiently so to cause an electrolysis reaction thereat. The conventional negative excess is not necessary and the auxiliary electrode may replace a negative electrode. 10% excess electrolyte (aqueous KOH) should be used. Ni/Cd and Ag/Cd cells are disclosed.
