Abstract

1,159,817. Electric cells. ACCUMULATORENFABRIK SONNENSCHEIN G.m.b.H. 4 Nov., 1966 [4 Nov., 1965], No. 49646/66. Heading H1B. A primary or secondary electric cell comprises an alkaline electrolyte, a positive electrode containing silver, a separator disposed between the electrodes, and an additional electrode disposed between the positive electrode and the separator, the additional electrode containing an active material having in the completely oxidized state an electrochemical potential at least equal to that of silver oxide and possibly at least equal to that of silver peroxide. The additional electrode may completely surround the positive electrode and the alkaline electrolyte may be held capillarity in the pores of the positive electrode and the separator. The additional electrode may be made of nickel hydroxide and the negative electrode of cadmium. An additional separator may be disposed between the additional electrode and the positive electrode.
