Abstract
1534799 Terminal connections for alkaline cells UNION CARBIDE CORP 16 March 1976 [17 March 1975] 10374/76 Addition to 1512211 Heading H1B A flat alkaline cell as described in parent Specification 1,512,211 has a third external collector 31 connected to a third auxiliary electrode 15 of, e.g. sintered Ni which may be an oxygen or hydrogen sensing electrode or a voltage reference electrode. The cells may be, e.g. Ni-Cd or Zn, manganese dioxide, silver oxide or mercuric oxide. In a modification (Figs. 5 to 7, not shown) the third terminal is located in the bottom wall of the cell. When used for hydrogen sensing, the electrode may be of sintered Niimpregnated with Pt, Pd or Rh, and when used as a voltage reference electrode it may be sintered Ni impregnated with a metal hydroxide.
