Abstract

Moulding material consists of is not >94 wt.% (I) polyethylene terephthalate pellets, and is not 6 wt.% (II) fine particles of polyethylene terephthalate having an m.pt. at least 20 degrees C above that of (I). The intrinsic viscosity of (I) and (II) is 1.0. (II) has a m.pt. of >=285 degrees C, and an average particle size of 50 mu. (II) is prepd. by (a) heat treating fine particles of polyethylene terephthalate at a temp. >255 degrees C in an inert gas atmos., in order to raise its m.pt. to >285 degrees C, and (b) pulverising the treated polyethylene terephthalate. The initial polyethylene terephthalate is pref. oriented by drawing. It is easily injection moulded to articles having an excellent surface, and high crystallinity and dimensional stability. The articles can be easily demoulded.
