Abstract
Water is deionised and sterilised by passing it through a cation exchanger bed to remove most of the cations, the emerging water having a pH of 5-6.5, degassing the latter to remove up to 80% of CO2 and subjecting the degassed water to reverse osmosis to obtain a first fraction comprising deionised and sterilised water and a second one comprising slightly re-ionised water which is recycled to a zone downstream of the degassing zone and upstream of the osmosis appts. An appts. for effecting the process is also claimed. Water contg. 400-500 mg/1 ions can be sterilised and deionised to a level of 5-7 mg/1.
