Abstract

The ends of the pipes fit one into each end of a rubber muff with externally tapered ends. An outer sleeve of rigid material encloses the rubber muff with an internal taper at one end to match the muff taper. An internally tapered collar is inserted into the other end of the outer tube and is forced against the rubber muff, to ensure perfect sealing, by a threaded nut which is screwed into an internal thread in the end of the outer tube. The outer sleeve is in two parts, fluid pressure form the space between the pipe ends forcing the muff against the inner surface of the outer sleeve.
