Abstract

A device for cutting and welding concentric tubes in the vertical position, where the space between the tubes forms a water-cooling jacket. The tubes are held from the top in a jig which permits the inner tube to be raised and lowered over a small range. The bottom ends of the tubes are clamped to a centre plate which is fitted with two arms, rotatable through 360 degrees, each arm being provided with an adjustable tool-mounting to house either an electric-powered cutting disc or a welding gun. By tilting the tool-mounting, and feeding the cutter inwards, the outer tube can be cut at an angle suitable for subsequent welding; the centre plate is then lowered and the inner-tube cut off. The worn portion of the lance can thus be removed and a new end inserted in the centre plate and both tubes welded to the main portion of the lance.
