Abstract
The vessel contains two superimposed beds of solid particles, e.g. ion exchange resins, separated by a grid, and has an opening between the two beds which can be used to allow in a supply of regenerating liq. or to carry out treated water. The vessel has two more openings, one at the top and one at the bottom of the two beds, each valved for connection either to a supply of water for treatment or to an outlet for used regenerating liq. leaving the vessel. Regenerating liq. supplied between the twin beds has to pass through only half the bed thickness compared with a single bed in the same size vessel; regeneration periods are of reduced duration and the treatment capacity is greatly increased for a given size of vessel.
