Abstract
Poisonous N oxides are reduced by CO and/or H2 in the presence of 2202 by using a zeolite with pore dia. 3-10 angstroms which has been exchanged with a catalytically-active, pref. transition, metal which pref. has an atomic number of 22-30 abd is Ni, or Ni and Cu. The esp. pref. catalyst is mixed synthetic mordenites half of which has been 82% exchanged with Cu and the remaining half of which has been 53% exchanged with Ni. At the normal operating temp. of about 300-550 degrees C, NH3 is not formed; a residence time of ass little as 0.1 sec. will remove N oxides almost completely. The gases remaining after the N oxide redn. may be mixed with air and passed over a catalyst to oxidize hydrocarbons and CO.
