Abstract
The exhaust gases drive a turbine which is on the same shaft as a compressor for the supply air. On leaving the turbine, part of the exhaust is discharged and part is mixed with fresh inlet air. This mixture is adiabatically compressed by the compressor driven by the exhaust turbine and then passes through a cooler which removes the heat of the exhaust gas as well as the heat of compression. From the cooler the mixture goes to the carburettor and thence to the inlet manifold.
