Abstract

The compsn. which provides calcium in an easily-absorbed and rapidly-incorporated form contains neutral Ca citrate and malate; CaCO3 and MgCO3; Ca3(PO4)2; natural sugars, vitamins and trace elements. It is esp. prepd. by steeping (48-96 hr., room temp., opt with stirring) chicken egg shells, with membranes removed with clarified lemon juice. Analysis is Ca citrate 35%, Ca malate 0.3%; CaCO3 1%, MgCO3 0.15%; Ca3(PO4)2 0.15%; glucose 1.5%; fructose 2.5%; sucrose 0.5%; 5 x 10-6% folic acid; 3 x 10-4% thiamine; 3 x 10-4% riboflavin; 7 x 10-4% niacin; 0.225% ascorbic acid; 0.425% inositol; 0.12% vitamin P and excipients. It may be used directly or pref. after dehydration (in vacuo or by freeze-drying). It may be added to animal or human food esp. fattening rations and has possible value in healing bone fractures etc.
