Abstract

Mixer is notably intended for the supply of foodstuffs to pigs; it is associated with a reservoir which acts as a reserve for the water. A balance feeds the solid food through a hopper into the mixer. The latter is provided with an immersed pump. The pump outlet is connected to the distribution system for filling the troughs while a return pipe brings excess food back to the outlet inside the mixer. An anticlockwise spiral ramp produces a vortex and a very agitated zone under the hopper, where the solid food is introduced through an inclined perforated plate. The mixer is relatively small but the mixing process is very rapid and only takes several tens of seconds. The use of mechanical agitators is avoided and the necessary agitation is effected by the currents of the water and the liq. mix. Another external pump runs continuously, to avoid undue water from starting and stopping, to deliver water to the mixer or return it to the reservoir, according to the setting of a 3-way valve.
