Abstract

Mixing plant partic. for prods. intended for the liq. feeding of young animals, such as calves and piglets, comprises a mixing tank provided with a helical stirrer driven by a motor situated below the base of the tank. The mixer produces a feed from a powder diluted with water. A definite quantity of water is introduced into the tank and the motor started so that the stirrer creates a vortex which is limited in size by the vertical tunnel. The weighed quantity of powder is added and is drawn into the vortex until it reaches the stirrer where it is finely divided and intimately mixed with the surrounding water, this circulates continuously passing downwards through the tunnel and rising again on its outside. Deflectors prevent the contents of the tank from being displaced in a mass by the circular movement around the shaft and ensure that mixing of the powder takes place in the space between the tunnel and the side wall of the tank. Mixing of the powder, which tends to float on the surface of the diluting water, is effected rapidly by the sunction of the vortex and with only a small expenditure of energy. Intimate mixing is assured by the circulation under the tunnel and up the side wall.
