Abstract

Mixer is used for the prepn. of mixts. of meal and liqs. in given proportions before they are distributed to the feeding troughs of stock-raising farms. It consists of a proportioning tank connected to a mixing enclosure by an upper and lower pipe which are themselves connected to a pump. A float in the tank is surmounted by a rack, each tooth of which corresponds to the distribution of one litre to the troughs. The required amt. of liq. is measured in the tank and transferred to the mixer through a rotating perforated pipe. The meal is introduced through an opening in the top of the mixer and rotating blades mix it with the liq. The mixture is drawn back into the tank by the pump and then transferred to the distributing pipes. Exact vols. of feedstuffs can be distributed thus avoiding errors when the quantities are based on flow times, as hitherto. The liq. or water is circulated to all parts of the system so that accumulations are avoided and possible sources of contamination removed. In use, the setting of the various valves is conjugated manually or automatically to establish the circuits required for the different phases of the operations.
