Abstract

An asynchronous motor, driving a centrifugal dryer; is fed via a frequency changer, so that an optimum couple may be applied, during starting up with a heavy load, processing in presence of liq., and spinning out at high r.p.m. Pref. frequency slip is minimised, e.g. by switching connections to stator poles, so that more poles are in circuit at low speed. A filter may be used to eliminate harmonics from frequency changer, and a reduction gear, which can be bypassed, may be employed. Drive system, e.g. for a bottom discharge dryer fitted with rakes, is not subject to deterioration under humid conditions, and requires little maintenance.
