Abstract

In a dry cleaning installation the vapour of the solvent together with air is drawn from the cleaning chamber and pumped at increased pressure through a heat exchanger where the bulk of the vapour condenses and passes with the air carrying a small remnant of vapour into a separator, the fluid going to the reservoir, whilst the air returns to the chamber through a choke which maintains the pressure up-stream and allows the air to re-enter the cleaning chamber at low pressure. For a solvent boiling at a high temp., the circuit includes an additional heat exchanger between the blower and the heater through which the air and vapour is circulated directly back to the cleaning chamber, the bulk of the solvent being thus condensed and returned to the reservoir before pressurisation.
