Abstract

Welding wire consists of a steel jacket, making up 65-80 wt.%/total wire wt. and filled with (a) a powdered mixt. contg. (by wt.) of wire, 5-12% graphite, 0.1-6% FeSi, 0.01-20 % Fe powder, (b) 0.5-6% modifier consisting of, (by wt.) 1-12% Mg, 0.1-10% rare earths, 8-22% Ca, 50-65% Si, 8-20% Fe, and (c) 0.1-3% flux-forming component. Flux-formers consist esp. >=1 alkaline earth metal halides, pref. of 0.3-2.5 wt.% fluorspar contg. >85% CaF2.
