Abstract
Suitable materials are ferro-, rutheno- or platinocyanic acid or nitroprussic acid in a concn. of 5-200 g./l. water and/or polar org. solvent(s), esp. alcohols (MeOH, EtOH) or Me.CO.Et or EtO.CHiCH2OH contng. 1-10 wt. % H2O. The compsn. can also contain a resin binder, pref. in an atm. of 1-100 pts./pt. complex acid. It is applied at 15-65 (20-30) degrees C. by dipping, spraying or brushing. The compsn. is suitable for many applications where phosphoric acid compns. cannot be used. It reduces rust formation, even on rust iron, is cheaper than phosphoric acid compsns. and less hazardous and critical than phosphoric and mineral acids.
