Abstract

Composite bandage incorporate segments of flexible elastic strips alternating with inelastic tapes. An adsorbant pad is strapped to one end of the inner face of the bandage, and ancillary fastenings are bonded to the other end of the tape and on the outer faces of the inelastic segments. Pref. the pad is made of polyurethane foam. the ancillary fastenings may be complementary patterns of hooked pile tape such as 'VELCRO' (RTM). For self fastening wrap-round bandages to fit limbs or bodies, of various circumferences without excessive tension. All components are nonmetallic and washable. The inelastic segments inhibit the edges of the bandages from curling or twisting towards the centreline and thus concentrating the press on the skin.
