Abstract
Casting of raw material for rolling mills, partic. for small to medium output factories with arc furnaces of 15-60 ton capacity, using top pouring in known manner into moulds, the novel feature of which is that the ratio of the mean transverse section of the mould of 120-150mm to the length of the mould cavity is 1:8-1:15 and the heat storage capacity of the mould is a multiple of the heat content of steel cast therein, the moulds being filled with steel at a min. rate of 7-10 kg/sec. while in the intervals between successive castings the moulds are air colled up to such time as their heat storage capacity has again reached its initial value.
