Abstract

The structure is based on a vertical cylindrical hemi-spherical domed steel liner built up in welded sections with an external reinforcing concrete layer. A thicker outer layer of concrete is added contg. internal steel reinforcement and stressing cables. The multi-strand cables are laid in sleeves following a 45 degrees helical path within the structure to realise a uniformly geometric cross-lacing with each cable end set diametrically opposite in peripheral anchorages. The cables are greased and hydraulically tensioned to the required degree to relieve internal stresses compatible with the reactor operating and safety requirements.
