Abstract
In the parent patent, cladding for a high press operated blast furnace is progressively cooled, i.e a high coolant flow rate is maintained at the beginning of the campaign. The cladding consists of a no. of box panels welded together vertically and joined to the sole plate. The no. of box panels is equal to or double the no. of tuyeres so that the furnace cross section is a regular polygon. In this addn. the sole plate consists of 1 or 2 rows of right prismatic carbon blocks of hexagonal cross section which are disposed vertically and interconnected by a network of oblique refractory concrete bars and spheres. The blocks may be arranged without space between them or with very narrow spaces which are filled with refractory concrete and form a honeycomb structure.
