Abstract
Welding additives for steel consists of a mixt. of =98% Mn or its alloys with Ni and/or Cu and/or Co =30% ofSn or Sb which lower the smelting temp. =20% of B and/or P, =95% Fe or steel and =50% of a non metellic, reducing compound in which O2 is soluble, pref. B or F. The additive may also consist of the above Mn alloys mixed with =20% of a metal to reduce the smelting temp. e.g. Sn or Sb and =10% B being also coated or mixed with a non-metallic O2 dissolving compound, preferably capable of reduction. The additives are given the shape of the objects to be welded, pref. using powder metallurgy or by sintering. The particle size must be is not >0.6 mm in diameter and the specific gravity is not >7.2 gm/cm3.
