Abstract
The piston associated with anodised cylinder is split to incorporate a pair of wear seals of rubbery material filled with a solid lubricant (MoS2) and supported by an interventing hoop of a rigid plastic material to prevent the seals 'spreading'. The ram passes through twin outer seals also of lubricant filled rubber. Pref. the ram bearing comprises a mixture of PTFE and mica and is mounted in a cartridge holder readily released/inspected/replaced. Pref. the piston head carried compressible pads (rubber) on each end to damp the impact at the end of each stroke. For mfr. of pumps with long life maintenance - free duties without wet or mist lubrication, e.g. for food mfr. or medical applications. Rate of wear with elastic seals less against anodised Al than plain Al surfaces, allowing >=106 cycles continuous running. Coupling design allows for ram rotation w.r.t. the cylinder and its supply lines, to facilitate installation.
