Appts. for continuously refining steel using >=1 reactor with cast iron and refining agent supply appts, and >=1 decanter with means for separately evacuating slag and metal. The appts also includes a qty of independent metallurgical vessels e.g. induction furnaces which can be supplied as required with metal from the decanter, and in which chemical or physico-chemical reactions are carried out to produce various grades of steel from the metal produced in the reactor.
