Abstract

Blow moulded articles are cooled by explosively injecting into the interior of the blown article a chilled mixture of air and water at least 500 p.s.i. The mixture undergoes expansion on injection to form minute ice crystals, cooled water droplets, and a water vapour/air mixture. Method ensures rapid cooling and a reduction of overall cycle time. Pref. the pressure of the mixture is 500 to 5000 p.s.i. and it is chilled to about 34 degrees F.
