Abstract

1318030 Blow-moulding COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE DE RAFFINAGE 19 April 1971 [2 April 1970] 26110/71 Heading B5A [Also in Division B8] Hollow plastics articles e.g. of polyethylene are blow-moulded by a sterile gas, are hermetically sealed and contain a sterilized gas at a pressure at least as great as atmospheric. The article is formed by extruding a plastics preform 9 into a blow-mould 10, 11, closing the mould, injecting a sterile gas through a needle 18 into the preform to blow-mould it, removing the needle whereupon the sterile gas passes out of the opening formed which is sealed when the article has reached a predetermined pressure. The top of the preform is cut by knife edge 12 on the mould, also sealing the bottom of the succeeding preform. Prior to blowing, a sterilizing gas, e.g. ozonized air may be fed from annular nozzle 16 to prevent contamination of the preform, the sterile blowing needle 18 then passing into preform 9 through bore 15. After blowing, the top of the article is sealed by closure of cheeks 22, 23 passing through twopart annular seal 19, 20 of insulating material which prevents cooling of zone h of the preform.
