Abstract

In a process for forming a metal surfaced panel in relief, esp. a large panel with a pyramidal pattern, the relief pattern is formed from metallic strips and is then reinforced by attaching a layer of synthetic material. The process is more economical than metallising plastics and gives a better appearance than the use of metal pigments. The sheets are useful for decoration and insulation. The plastic material is pref. applied by thermoforming, and the bonding consolidated by precoating the metal with heat activated adhesive. In the case of pyramidal patterns athe pyramids pref. have a common side. PVC, polypropylene and ABS copolymer are suitable sheet materials and they may be backed by a layer of polyurethane foam.
