Abstract

Corrosion in wells and associated systems is prevented by injecting 0.01-1 ppm. residual hydrazine and 2-200 ppm. of a nitrogenous corrosion inhibitor which is (a) a salt obtd. by reacting where R is a 10-20C alkyl radical and Y is H or a not >8C hydroxyalkyl or alkylamine radical, with HCL or an org. 1-14C acid, (b) a quat. ammonium salt of formula: where R is a 5-25C alkyl radical and R' is an alkyl radical with 1 or 5-25C, nc) a tert. amine of formula: where R is a 10-20C alkyl radical and x and y are integers 2-15, and/or (d) a diamine of formula R1-NH-R-NH2, where R is a 2-4C alkyl radical and R1 is a 8-20C alkyl radical. The concns. relate to the water produced in, or injected into, the well. The well may be of the gas-lift or water-injection type. The hydrazie and the corrosion inhibitor shows a synergistic effect.
