Abstract

The pipes are welded together by heating of the two ends to be joined to glass softening temp. pressing the two ends against each other followed by pulling apart to a slight extent after joining when hot during which last sequence a gas stream is passed through the joined pipes, the far ends of which have been kept plugged up during the whole operation. In the prefd. method one plug has a compressed air inlet tube permitting the build up of a slight excess pressure for the pulling apart sequence. Junctions are smooth and do not have increased wall thickness.
