Abstract

Steroids of the formula: (where A = A, B and C rings of a steroid molecule; R = H, OH or acyloxy; R1 = H or acyl), are prepd. by reacting a 17 alpha-ethynyl-17 beta-acyloxy estrane or androstane steroid with Zn in an ethylene glycol ether to give the corresp. 17 vinylidene steroid which is oxidised with OsO4, OsO4, H2O2 mixture, a percarboxylic acid, phenyliodoso acerate or morpholine. The prodts. have progestational, and antiinflammatory activity and the intermediate vinylidene cpds. are antandrogenic.
