Abstract

Method of treating ferrous metal parts to increase their service life comprises (1) case hardening the exterior surface by carburising (2) phosphatising the part and (3) stressing the surface of the exterior part by cold working e.g. shotpeening. By carrying out the operation in this order fatigue life of the part is considerably increased compared with prior art order.
