Abstract

Ornamental architectural components moulded in plain or reinforced concrete with surfaces decorated in relief patterns formed by casting or compression moulds faced with flexible PVC and/or rubber models. Pref. the pattern model comprises interlaced arrays of elastic pipes, pref. of PVC laid in sets of four in a cross-over pattern of 90 degrees aligned along or at 45 degrees to the axis of the concrete casting and with windows in the pattern to allow the casting to accept other components or inserts. Esp. suitable for moulding of concrete panels or pillars with a simulated classical woven relief design. The PVC and rubber components are relatively light and easy to manipulate and can be contracted to facilitate release from the moulded concrete surface or stiffened using internal pressurisation of the tubes to resist the hydrostatic compressive forces during casting.
