Abstract
Relatively volatile solvent is stripped by vacuum when soln. falls, as fairly uniform droplets of dia. about 1 mm. through a tower heated by IR or microwave radiation, which holds temp. of droplets nearly constant during solvent evaporation. Droplets may be produced by electrical vibration of one or more inlet capillaries opening downwards. Vacuum may be maintained by liquid NH2 diffusion pump backed up by rotary pump, and solvent recovered via barometric leg. Appts. may be used for heat sensitive products, e.g. recovery of pharmaceutical amino-acids from ethanol soln.
