Abstract
PURPOSE: To dry penicillin.cephalosporins containing a low-boiling organic solvent, in a short time, in high yield, without using a particular device, by contacting the penicillin.cephalosporins with steam under reduced pressure, thereby removing the low-boiling organic solvent.
CONSTITUTION: Penicillin.cephalosporins (PCs) containing a low-boiling organic solvent such as ethyl ether, methanol etc. is dried by (1) placing water or a moistened carrier in a desiccator, (2) placing the PCs above the water, etc., and (3) evacuating the desiccator. Since the water vapor absorbed in the PCs replaces the low-boiling solvent in the PCs, the solvent can be easily removed without heating the PCs. The water-content of the PCs is easily controled without causing the dissolution or sintering of the PCs, by adjusting the amount of water in the desiccator. The degree of vacuum in the desiccator is pref. ≤20mmHg, and the drying time is 24W72hr.
