Abstract

The spindle brake includes a lever carrying a brake pad, and pivoting movement of the lower moves the brake pad into braking contact with a whorl at the bottom of the spindle. The lever has an abutment below the brake pad which, when the brake is applied, engages the lower flange of the whorl and prevents axial movement of the spindle. Pref. movement of the lever is limited by a lower housing and when the housing is removed the lever can pivot sufficiency so that the abutment clears the lower flange of the whorl and allows the spindle to be removed. Vibration of the spindle during braking is reduced.
